Keeneland Pony Club believes the .horse domain should be secured, created and operated for use by equine-related organizations, businesses, and horse enthusiasts through the Dot Horse Project, LLC.

Securing this top-level domain, as conceived and proposed by the Dot Horse Project, LLC, represents the best interest of  Kentucky’s signature horse industry and organizations within the horse industry such as the Keeneland Pony Club.

Keeneland Pny Club was founded in 1958 and is a member of the United States Pony Clubs (USPC). It was so named because it held rallies and horseshows at Keeneland Race Course. Keeneland Pony Club is now in its third generation. This mission of the United States Pony Clubs is to provide a program for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility, moral judgement, leadership and self confidence. Members may ride horses and ponies. Riding activities include eventing (dressage, stadium jumping, cross-country), mounted games, show jumping, dressage (as a single activity), vaulting (horseback gymnastics), polo, polocrosse (combination of polo and lacrosse), foxhunting, and tetrathlon (riding, running, swimming, shooting). Through the USPC instructional program, members learn more about horses and their care than do members of any other American horsemanship organization. Although USPC emphasizes instruction over competition, members do compete with one another at club, regional, and national rallies. The term rally is used because Pony Club competitions are not merely competitive, they are also educational.

I am writing to express my support as Mayor of Lexington, Kentucky for the application of the Dot Horse Project, LLC. As I understand it, this project will secure, create and operate the .horse top-level domain (TLD).

The horse industry is a very significant industry for Lexington-Fayette County. With the exception of Woodford County, there is no other county in the state of Kentucky where this industry plays such an important role. My economic development vision is based on horses, healthcare and high-tech, and when the economic impact on the entire region is studied, one can quickly see why we place such importance on the equine industry in Central Kentucky.

Securing thi stop-level domain, as conceived and proposed by the Dot Horse Project, LLC, represents the best interests of our horse industry and will continue to solidify Lexington as the Horse Capital of the World. In September of 2010, Lexington, Kentucky will host the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the first time the event has ever been outside of Europe. The Games is the single largest equestrian event in the world and, as the participants from all over the world visit us n the web, the .horse domain would be a key branding tool.

The Kentucky Equine Humane Center is an all-breed shelter that never turns away a horse in the Commonwealth of Kentucky in need of shelter and human treatment. We have served more than 400 horse in the two years our doors have been open. The Kentucky Equine Human Center is the first-of-its-kind shelter in the country. Our no-cost, no-question, open door policy for the surrender of all equines, including miniatures, donkey, and mules, gives equine owners a humane solution when they can no longer care for their animals. Equines that are physically and mentally capable are then adopted out to loving homes.
